What is The Daily 5?The 'Introduction' videos are a good place to start to find out about using the Daily 5 in the classroom. These can be found in the 'Free Content' section, or in the 'Introduction Videos' page in the subscriber 'Full Access' section. The Daily 5 is our main Resilience Training programme at That Thing I Do. Each video lasts about 10 minutes, with each one designed to be used and repeated for a week. Each of the five steps in The Daily 5 provide a tool for developing and teaching resilience.

How does each step of The Daily 5 teach resilience? Each Step of The Daily 5 is a tool to help teach and develop resilience. Some of the Steps focus on mental resilience, some on physical resilience, and some on both. Step 1 is THINK: How am i feeling? A simple repetitive question to help us think about how we are feeling. It takes time and practice to answer this question and become more self-aware ...even grown-ups struggle to know how we are actually feeling a lot of the time! Step 2 is to JUMP: Time to play the drums and the funky music! Let's get the body moving, the heart rate up and get physically fitter and stronger! Step 3 is to STRETCH AND BREATHE: Let's take a deep breath and do some stretching and breathing to help us regulate and calm our body, while building strength. We focus on a 'pose' to help with stretching. The 'Breakdown The Pose' video for the week's Stretch and Breath pose is essential viewing to help teach our simple mindfulness technique: 'The Butterfly Mind'! By simply imagining that our focus and attention is a butterfly, we can more easily choose where our focus is and how to move our attention from one thing to another. Step 4 is to FIND MY ANCHOR: Developing mental resilience means knowing how deal with the tricky feelings and emotions. We focus on our theme word and become mindful of what this word (or phrase) means. Doing this helps us learn and recognise helpful thoughts and feelings through the theme for the week, and how they can help with tricky feelings and emotions. Step 5 is READY AND RESILIENT: After going through our Steps we then must get ready to transition back into our day. We are becoming more ready and resilient, able to return to our day!

Why That Thing I Do (TTID)? What is different about TTID?We care first and foremost about the emotional and physical wellbeing of children and young people, and each member of the TTID teams knows and has personal experience of how important this is in our own lives. Go to the 'About Us' section to find out a little bit more about who we are. Sarah, our Resilience Trainer, is a full time Primary School teacher and knows our content works becuase she does it and uses it every day in her own classroom. She has developed and refined her approach over a number of years. After first trying different strategies to help individuals wtihin her class. She then found that combining these things she did together, and using them with the whole class, it became clear that the whole class benefited greatly from what we now call 'The Daily 5'. Sarah has qualifications in ASD, counselling and kid's yoga (to specifically help with the TTID stretching exercises). She has found bringing all these skills together in the classroom, helps to meet many of the wide range of needs that every classroom has.

How to best use The Daily 5 and other TTID content in the classroomYou get to decide how you want to use That Thing I Do! But, if you want to know how we think it works best, find out by watching 'An Introduction to The Daily 5' video and the other Introduction videos. We are planning more detailed 'How to Use' videos that will be available for the start of the 2021/2022 school year - but read below for a quick summary of what we recommend: Each week of The Daily 5 has a theme word to focus on as we explore how to become more resilient. Week 1 is 'Courage'. The Daily 5 works best when repeated up to 5 times each week. Repition is key! We recommend aiming to use each Daily 5 for three of the 5 days in the school week, and on the other days, try exploring the other videos associated with the topic for the week An example for during the: Week 1: Monday: The Daily 5 - 1. Courage Tuesday: Movement Break, Breath Break, Breakdown The Pose - 1. Courage Wednesday: The Daily 5 - 1. Courage Thursday: Movement Break, Breath Break, Breakdown The Pose - 1. Courage Friday: The Daily 5 - 1. Courage

Is all the TTID exercise content appropriate for using in a classroom? All exercise comes with risks. Please first refer to The Health and Safety Executive (UK) for the 'Health and Safety Checklist for Classrooms' (https://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/classroom-checklist.pdf) before using TTID content in your classroom. All TTID content has been specifically designed and created for use in an average-sized classroom, with each child or young person finding their own space with room to move, and to do so safely (and in a classroom that complies with Health and Safety laws and guidelines). As stated in our Terms & Conditions of use of the website, all our content must only be used under the strict supervision of a responsible adult, ideally the class's teacher. We cannot accept responsibility for injury caused from use of TTID content, as stated in the Terms & Conditions for the use of this website and its content. However, we care greatly about the safety and wellbeing of every person who uses our content and believe common sense and the supervision of the class's teacher will ensure that all content remains safe to use in the classroom. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Problems with video playback and buffering? When you select a video, our Video Player takes the first 10 seconds to detect how good your internet connection speed is, and decides what the best resolution is to play the rest of the video at. If your internet connection is good, then there should not be any problems. If you do find some buffering causing unwanted pausing during playback, try selecting your video and waiting at least 10 seconds for the video to load before starting to play it. Note: A 10 minute Daily 5 video, in Full HD is a 600-800MB file, so it's pretty big! The Daily 5 'Standard Defintion' videos are available if the above steps do not work. If you continue to experience playback problems, please contact us.
